Tube Labeler Middleware

LIS-connected middleware standardising tube labelling across hospital laboratories — with configurable test-to-tube rules, department-based vacutainer logic, and automated print queue management for any analyzer environment.

Project Overview

TropLabs deployed Tube Labeler Middleware for hospital laboratories needing consistent, error-free tube labelling across multiple analyzers while integrating seamlessly with their existing Laboratory Information System. The middleware connects to the LIS via ODBC, API, Webhook, File, or HL7 — adapting to whatever integration method the site already uses — and receives test orders to drive the entire labelling workflow automatically. Configurable test-to-tube rules and department-based vacutainer logic allow each site to define its own labelling standards without custom development. Label templates are fully customisable, and print jobs are routed to registered tube labeler devices through a managed queue with failover handling, ensuring continuity if a primary device is unavailable. Duplicate detection prevents repeat printing errors, and full backup capabilities support audit readiness and operational resilience in regulated laboratory environments.

Outcomes

Automated, standardised tube labels driven directly from LIS data eliminated manual entry and mislabelling risk; configurable rules for tests, departments, and auxiliary labels accommodated site-specific workflows without custom code; and operational safeguards — duplicate detection, print queues, device failover, and backups — improved reliability and audit readiness across laboratory operations.
